Where are We Going? - We spent time creating the foundations for our unit - - Theme/Topic Big Ideas Essential Questions Now we’re getting into the heart of the unit, which includes the Reading Sections. - Phonics/Word Study Comprehension Skills/Strategies Read Aloud Guided Reading Independent Reading
Phonics/ Word Study - - For this section you can pull the phonics skills or word study skills from Journeys that you would intend to work on in this unit. Compare them to the foundational skill standards and what skills are expected of students/you planned for this unit.

Comprehension Skills and Strategies - - - Pull from your standards that you listed at the start. Include reading, speaking and listening, and language (if applicable). You do not need to list the standards out completely, just the code. You will identify teaching points in this section that would be for whole group instruction.

- Read Aloud - Copy and paste standards and teaching points from Comprehension Skills/Strategies that you would want to model as a teacher. Add any additional teaching points that would apply to read aloud specifically.

- Guided Reading - - Copy and paste standards and teaching points from Comprehension Skills/Strategies that you would want to focus on in smaller groups. Consider foundational skills that you would be teaching in this setting as well. Add additional teaching points that would apply to small group work as opposed to whole class.

- Independent Reading - - - Copy and paste standards and teaching points from Comprehension Skills/Strategies Consider foundational skills that you would be teaching in this setting as well. Eliminate teaching points that you would not expect students to execute independently. Consider if there any additional pieces that you would need to teach students to be independent.
