Visual Merchandising About the Skill – Overview/Description Visual Merchandising is an art of creating window display to attract prospective customers inside the store. This is from where customers get interested to have a look of the store and also buy the products. However, having good products is only part of the key to a successful retail outlet, Drawing people in by using appeal is also important. The Visual Merchandiser creates a positive atmosphere for customers, creating a brand look that is creative, eye catching, and drives sales. They need to understand the target market for both products and outlets, have a good sense of design to implement a brief, and show careful attention to detail. Visual Merchandising could be for you if you like: • Being creative • Craftsmanship • Making things
Visual Merchandising Technical Inputs § The individual needs to know and technically understand: § • Applications of IT programs e. g. Photoshop and Illustrator or any other graphical software § Graphic design/2 D design § Design of props and spaces/2 D design 1 st Junior Skills Championship What competitor needs to know about skill? What competitor should be able to do in the test project? § The competitor should be able to apply theoretical understanding of principles and elements of design such as Line, Shape, Color, Texture, Balance, Proportion, Unity, Emphasis, Rhythm etc. and props. to create an effective window dressing. § In addition, they should have basic drawing and painting skills & knowhow of MS-Word and Internet. § Competitors will undertake installing a self-made complete lifestyle or fashion window dressing, using a range of lifestyle or fashion products. § Competitors are also expected to research; develop a concept note, window design, prop/s design etc. by using a variety of material provided to them by the organizer.
Visual Merchandising EVALUATION SYSTEM & PARAMETERS 1. Students will be marked on the basis of various modules like Research and Mood board; Interpretation of theme and concept; overall design of Window and Prop; Product Presentation; Composition and Visual Appeal. 2. Evaluation system will be based on marking scheme with weightage allocated to each module. The test project will be marked out of 100.
