Regional Offices in Brussels • Over 300 regional offices in Brussels from almost all member states • Represent the regions’ interests in Brussels, and report back to the regions on EU policies and programmes (‘eyes & ears’ of the regions) • Lobby the EU institutions (MEPs, Commission, Council, Co. R), on relevant EU policies and network with other regional offices, European organisations • Support to bids for EU funding (providing info on calls for proposals/ tenders, partner searches, current and future funding programmes, liaise with Commission officials, organise meetings & events in Brussels)

The Integrated Lifelong Learning Programme 2007 -2013 The Experience from past programmes (public consultation) • Great enthusiasm for programmes but much too bureaucratic, inflexible and overcomplicated • Programmes should develop European citizenship, language learning, and regional aspect • Decentralised procedures simpler and more user friendly

Culture 2007 • Takes over from the current Culture 2000 programme • 3 objectives Transnational mobility for everyone working in the cultural sector in the EU The transnational circulation of works of art and cultural/artistic products. MEDIA 2007 • Successor to current MEDIA Plus & MEDIA Training programmes • Principal aims : Preserving and promoting Europe’s cultural diversity and cinematic/audiovisual heritage, ensuring public access to this heritage and encouraging dialogue between cultures. Increasing the circulation of European films and other audiovisual productions, both inside and outside the EU. Citizens for Europe • addresses major challenge of the EU: how to bridge gap between citizens and EU • 3 different programme’s actions: Action I “Active citizens for Europe” involves citizens directly, either through activities linked to town-twinning or through other kinds of citizens’ projects. Action II “Active civil society for Europe” is targeted to Europe-wide civil society organisations, receiving either structural support on the basis of their work programme or support to trans-national projects. Action III “Together for Europe” supports high visibility events, studies and information tools, addressing the widest possible audience across frontiers and making Europe more tangible for its citizens.
