Overcoming the Spirit of Offense March Bible Study Series
Chapter 17: 1 -5 Foundation Scripture
Then He said to the disciples, "It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they do come! It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day returns to you, saying, 'I repent, ' you shall forgive him. " And the apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith. " Luke 17: 1 -5

Luke 10: 38 -42 Scripture Lesson 1
Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me. " And Jesus answered and said to her, "Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her. "
John 12: 3 -8 Scripture Lesson 2
Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. Then one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, who would betray Him, said, "Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor? " This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it. But Jesus said, "Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial. For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always. "
“To avoid criticism, do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing. ” Elbert Hubbard
“If you get upset, offended, and go off and sulk, and nurse your grievance, you will die. ” T. Austin-Sparks
7 Ways to React When You’re Offended by Other Christians
1. Your Christian Brothers and Sister Will Hurt Your Feelings.
The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace. ” Exodus 14: 14
2. When Others Hurt You, Your Spiritual Maturity Will Be Revealed.
If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, " says the Lord. Romans 12: 18 -19
3. God Intends to Use Mistreatments for Our Good.
Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age. Also, he made him a tunic of many colors. But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peaceably to him. Genesis 37: 3 -4
Joseph took it from the hand of God, saying, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good. ” Genesis 50: 20
It may be that the Lord will look on my affliction, and that the Lord will repay me with good for his cursing this day. ” II Samuel 16: 12
4. Christians Often Get Offended by Reading into Words and Actions.
“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. ” Colossians 3: 13
“Take a deep breath and forgive those who you feel have crossed you! And stop letting your fallen emotions determine your response to the world as if you were not a follower of Jesus Christ!”
5. Christians Often Get Offended with A Person When They Believe False Accusations Against Them.
As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him. Titus 3: 10
When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent. Proverbs 10: 19
Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. Colossians 4: 5 -6
6. What You Do with A Hurt Is A Choice You Make.
The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger, and his glory is to overlook a transgression. Proverbs 19: 11
7. You Can Live Free from Offense.
"Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil. Ephesians 4: 26 -27
“Dead men never get offended. ”
“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. . . ” Galatians 2: 20
Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. Luke 9: 23
