Thesis Statement The key word here is “statement” -- you are making a statement with this sentence. Your thesis statement is the reason you are writing your paper. Why is this topic important? Why is your paper worth reading? What is the main point you are communicating to your reader? Do not use the word “because. ” When you use the word “because, ” it is generally followed by details. Your whole paper will be filled with details supporting your thesis. This sentence should not include those details.
