introduction An estimated 225 million women in developing countries would like to delay or stop childbearing but are not using any method of contraception. Some family planning methods , such as condoms , help prevent the transmission HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.
Family planning/ contraception reduces the need for abortion , especially unsafe abortion Family planning reinforces people’s rights to determine the number and spacing of their children. By preventing unintended pregnancy , family planning / contraception prevents deaths of mothers and children.
Definition A program to regulate the number and spacing of children in a family through the practice of contraception or other methods of birth control.
Purpose * to help women and their partners protect themselves from unwanted pregnancies and identify conditions that may affect reproductive health, such as STD and breast/ cervical cancer. * Planning for a pregnancy ensures that the parent or parents are best prepared mentally, physically, and emotionally to care for a child.
Benefits * Preventing pregnancy related health risks in women * Fewer children means more food for each child. * Waiting to have children can allow young women and men time to complete their education. * Fewer children can mean more time for yourselves and your children. * Helping to prevent HIV/AIDS
The Ideal Birth Control The perfect contraceptive would be: - 1 -guaranteed to protect against pregnancy. 2 -without danger of serious side effects. 3 -without danger of nuisance side effects. 4 -effective immediately. 5 -acceptable from the user's personal and cultural point of view.
