Our Solar System by Ashley Orlowski A solar system is a group of objects in space that orbit a star in the center plus the star itself. The sun is the star in the center of our solar system. Everything else in the solar system is smaller than the star.
The Sun As the sun burns it releases a lot of gas. The Sun was born 5 billion years ago.
MERCURY Mercury has the name of a Greek God because he was the messenger of other gods.
Venus There is little gravity in Venus. If you weigh 70 pounds, you will weigh 63 pounds there. Venus has an atmosphere much thicker than Earth’s.
EARTH Earth is the only known planet with life.
MARS Mars was named for a Roman god.
ASTEROID BELT The Asteroid Belt is a bunch of rocks in space that make a belt. Also due to their smaller size, asteroids do not have enough gravity to pull them into a shape of a ball. The asteroid belt divides the inner planets and the outer planets.
JUPITER Jupiter is bigger than Earth. It has a red spot on it that looks like fire. It is very windy there.
Saturn Saturn over through his father to become king. Then he was over through by his sun Jupiter. Saturn was a Roman god Agriculture. He was called Crocus by the Greeks.
Uranus Uranus is named for the king of gods until he was overthrown by his son Saturn.
Neptune Neptune is named after the Roman god of water. Then he became the god of sea.
