HISTORY: Our House is a not for profit organization operating through funds procured through fundraising, grants, donations, and residential treatment fees. • Our House began as the result of concerned church members at the Anglican church of St. Stephen the Martyr. • • It began as a residential drop in facility for men and women and operated on a volunteer basis. It was premised on the notion of “addicts helping addicts. ” •

OUR HOUSE TODAY: • • Today, Our House operates as a complete addictions recovery center. The center offers addictions recovery programs, along with an extensive list of other programming options. Additionally, Our House acts as a safe space, free of drugs and alcohol, where recovering individuals are able to receive access to basic human needs such as food and shelter. •

Programming: o Throughout the course of a 1 -year residency program, clients are provided

Programming: o Throughout the course of a 1 -year residency program, clients are provided hands on guidance by trained addictions recovery counsellors including 24 hour onsite support, one on one counselling sessions, and post-graduation support. Psycho-educational modules completed by clients: � � � � � Understanding Addictions as a disease Coping with stress Communication Raising Self Esteem Assertiveness/Conflict resolution Relapse Prevention Co-dependency Healthy relationships Budgeting/Leisure � � � Other modules are offered to residents as required including: Grief and loss Mental Health First Aid Co-occurring Disorders Adult Children of Alcoholics Understanding Anger Helping Men Recover

Who we help: � � � � Men over the age of 18. Average is 37 years old. 60% in the 26 -44 age range. 48% have not completed high school 45% report drug of choice as alcohol. 37% report drug of choice as cocaine. 87% began drinking before the age of 18. 75% began using drugs before the age of 18. � � � � 50% have been hospitalized due to their addiction. 45% report experiencing a concurrent disorder. 56% report being prescribed medication for a mental health disorder. All respondents reported being incarcerated for 30 days or more. 66% have spent one year or more incarcerated. 48% have not completed high school. 45% report experiencing physical abuse.
