Scripture Reading Zechariah 4: 1 -3 1 Then the angel who was speaking with me returned and roused me, as a man who is awakened from his sleep. 2 He said to me, “What do you see? ” And I said, “I see, and behold, a lampstand all of gold with its bowl on the top of it, and its seven lamps on it with seven spouts belonging to each of the lamps which are on the top of it; 3 also two olive trees by it, one on the right side of the bowl and the other on its left side. ”
Scripture Reading Zechariah 4: 4 -6 4 Then I said to the angel who was speaking with me saying, “What are these, my lord? ” 5 So the angel who was speaking with me answered and said to me, “Do you not know what these are? ” And I said, “No, my lord. ” 6 Then he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel saying, ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, ’ says the LORD of hosts.
Scripture Reading Zechariah 4: 7 -9 7 ‘What are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become a plain; and he will bring forth the top stone with shouts of “Grace, grace to it!”’” 8 Also 9 “The the word of the LORD came to me, saying, hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will finish it. MINISTRY OF THE WORD Today’s Message: “The Difference the Holy Spirit Makes” Part 2 Zechariah 4: 1 -9
Question: What did the prophet Zechariah reveal about the work of the Holy Spirit in order to encourage Judah to complete God’s work?
1. The rebuilding of the temple would take place by God’s divine enablement. (4: 1 -3)
2. God’s plans and purposes are accomplished by the power of the Holy Spirit, not by human effort. (4: 4 -6)
3. God would remove the obstacles from the path of His people so they would be successful. (4: 7)
4. The Holy Spirit would empower Zerubbabel to lead God’s people to complete God’s work. (4: 9)
Question: What four main lessons should Christians today learn from the prophet Zechariah?
1. You cannot do Kingdom Work in your own natural strength. Acts 1: 4 “…John baptized with water, but you will be baptized [with the Holy Spirit not many days from now. ” Acts 1: 8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. . .
2. Everything that God commands us to do He gives us the Holy Spirit which enables us to get it done. Philippians 2: 13. “It is God at work within us to will and to do His good pleasure. ”
3. The Holy Spirit is the difference from us doing what is pleasing and acceptable to God and what is only pleasing to us. Galatians 5: 16. “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. ”
4. No matter how difficult the task, it is not up to you to get it done, simply surrender to God’s will and watch God work. Philippians 1: 6. “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. ”
