“Our Father in Heaven” The One to Whom We Pray Matthew 6: 9
“Our Father in Heaven” • Our concept of a father is derived from our own human experience. (Matthew 7: 7 -11; Hebrews 12: 8 -9) – Our heavenly Father is both like and unlike the best of earthly fathers. He is perfect! • Our Heavenly Father knows our needs! (Matthew 6: 31 -32) – But He wants us to ASK to show our faith and trust in Him (1 Chronicles 5: 20; 1 Timothy 5: 5; James 1: 6)
“Our Father in Heaven” • Our Heavenly Father desires to give good gifts to His children who ask. (Mt. 7: 7 -11) – He understands us and knows what is good for us (Psalm 103: 13 -14; 139: 1 -3) – We are of great value to Him (Matthew 6: 26; 10: 29 -31)
“Our Father in Heaven” We may only call upon Him as Father IF we are His children. • We must be adopted! – Redeemed by Christ (Galatians 4: 4 -6) – Led by the Spirit (Romans 8: 14 -15) • Enabling us to call upon God respectfully as “Abba, Father” • We must accept our Father’s chastening (Hebrews 12: 7 -8)
“Our Father in Heaven” • Because our Father is “in Heaven” He has heaven’s resources at His disposal! (Psalm 73: 25) – He can open the “windows of heaven” and pour blessings upon us! (Malachi 3: 10) – He supplies our needs with His riches! (Philippians 4: 19)
