My Question How will my egg change based on the liquid it is in?

My Hypothesis • In vinegar the egg will shrink. In the water it will absorb the water. But in the saltwater it will shrink again. With the food coloring the egg will change color. Next we put it in soap and the egg would get a little bit bigger.

Find the mass of egg using a scale Find the circumference of the egg using a string and then a ruler Write down observations of egg in data table Using a graduated cylinder, measure 200 ml of vinegar and add to container Carefully add egg to container and leave for 24 hours Repeat steps 1 -5 but with saltwater, then food coloring, then a liquid of choice

Day 1 Vinegar n Today we put the egg in 200 ml of vinegar. The egg was smooth, white and has a hard shell. Day 1 Mass Circumference 54 g 14 cm

Day 2 Water w Today we put the egg in 200 ml of water. The egg was bigger and the shell dissolved. Day 2 Mass Circumference 64 g 16. 6 cm

Day 3 Saltwater • Today we put the egg in 200 ml of saltwater. The egg got smaller and weighed more. Day 3 Mass Circumference 16. 6 cm

Day 4 Food coloring s Today we put the egg in 200 ml of food coloring. The egg got smaller , weighed more and changed Day 4 Mass Circumference color. 84 g 16. 2 cm

Day 5 Soap s Today we put the egg in 200 ml of soap. The egg got smaller , weighed more and stayed same color. Day 4 Mass Circumference 74 g 15. 5 cm

Day 6 s At the end the egg got smaller and weighed more. Day 4 Mass Circumference 76 g 15. 5 cm

Conclusion • We were correct in vinegar, food coloring, and soap. But we were wrong in the water and saltwater. For the water and saltwater the egg got bigger and softer. In the vinegar, food coloring, and soap the egg shrunk and weighed more. Next time we will think more scientifically and we will think if the egg will like the different liquids.
