Our Body Systems By Nancy Esqueda and Silvia
Our Body Systems By: Nancy Esqueda and Silvia Nunez
Lesson Plan • Target/Grade Subject: This lesson plan is geared towards middle school science students. In order to satisfy some of the standards found on the TEKS, this lesson targets human anatomy and physiology. • Objectives: The goal of this lesson is to facilitate student learning and understanding of the different systems found in the human anatomy through virtual simulations and activities.
Introduction • To engage students and interest them in learning about the systems in their bodies, we will use different case studies as an introduction.
Introduction • Examples: 1. ) What are some of the symptoms of diabetes and what organs does it affect. 2. ) Who does diabetes affect. 3. ) Do you know someone who is affected by this disease.
State Standards • The state standards this lesson covers are: • (12) Organisms and environments. The student knows that living systems at all levels of organization demonstrate the complementary nature of structure and function. The student is expected to: • (B) identify the main functions of the systems of the human organism, including the circulatory, respiratory, skeletal, muscular, digestive, excretory, reproductive, integumentary, nervous, and endocrine systems; (C) recognize levels of organization including cells, tissues, organ systems, and organisms;
Lesson Plan • Guiding Question: • The question that will guide this lesson plan is, “how does my body work. ” This lesson plan guides the students through different systems in the body by giving them a virtual tour/ virtual explanation.
Lesson Plan • Lesson Description: • The website to use along with this lesson is http: //www. visiblebody. com There you will find several options, but we will start with the virtual tour. At this time students will be writing the descriptions it gives for different organs and body systems in their journals. They will take notes, draw pictures, and then they should be able to express their area of interest. Once the tour is covered, they will watch a movie in which they can actually see the body in motion. After the movie, students can be allowed to play the games provided, such as jigsaw puzzles of the body, on a smart board.
Visible Body
Kids Health • After visiting visible body, the students will be separated into different groups, according to their own personal preference. Each group will then be able to develop their own presentation/lesson. They will then • present to their classmates using • resources found on www. kidshealth. com.
