Yes, in 1945, we did invade the island of Iwo Jima. The U. S. still needed to take care of Japan. Yes, we did raise the American flag on the highest point. Yes, Germany surrendered, but Truman needed to finish World War II! It was still going on in the Pacific. Japan was still fighting.
