Othello Jealousy Brandon Aftab O beware my lord
Othello: Jealousy Brandon Aftab
“O, beware, my lord, of jealousy! It is the greeneyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on. ”(A 3. S 3. 195) Jealousy is a reoccurring theme in this story. With the colour green commonly being associated with jealousy, Iago captures this thought by calling Cassio a green-eyed monster. He does this to further the plot and make Othello jealous of Cassio, so that Iago’s plan does not get ruined. The image selected captures this quote as it shows the eye of a beast with green.
“I cannot believe that in her. She’s full of most blessed condition. ”(A 2. S 1. 271) Roderigo, a gullible, rich man envies Othello and Cassio as Desdemona has loved them both. Iago uses the jealousy and envy in Roderigo’s eyes to make him his slave, as Roderigo will do anything to try and get a chance with the fair Desdemona. The image selected shows how one may feel when their loved one is not theirs to own.
“ ’I have already chose my officer’. And what was he? One Michael Cassio, …that never set a squadron in the field. ”(A 1. S 1. 18) Iago, is jealous of Cassio as Cassio has gotten the title of Othello’s right hand man. Iago does not like this, and it is his jealousy that fuels his plan to get revenge at Othello and Cassio. The image shown demonstrates I ago’s situation of not getting his role of Othello’s lieutenancy.
Oh, curse of marriage that we can call these delicate creatures ours and not their appetites! (A 3. S 3. 309) Othello, now tormented by the thought of Cassio stealing his wife, is consumed by jealousy. Although Desdemona is true to Othello, Iago tells Othello otherwise and Othello’s jealousy evolves into a passionate rage. This is the one flaw that brings forth Othello’s downfall. This photo represents Othello’s current situation and how his lover does not love him in return while in marriage.
I hate the Moor, and it is thought abroad that ’twixt my sheets He’s done my office. (A 1. S 3. 429) Iago, the man who used jealousy to tear down Othello is jealous of Othello himself. He has heard rumours of Othello having affairs with Emilia, and just like Othello, the jealousy consumes him and ultimately, is the source of his fate. This picture demonstrates what Iago must be thinking when he says Othello is fake; he has slept with another woman.
