GRADUATE RESPONSES
8
9
Otago NZISM Graduates rate continual professional development, professional recognition and the ability to work with other OHS people as the joint primary reasons for holding NZISM Graduate status. Second and third tier reasons appear to reflect a H&S Practitioner already actively enrolled and engaged in the profession with the need to continue learning, training and networking. Otago NZISM Graduates rate community participation as the least important reason to be a NZISM member. Following this in joint place include IOSH reciprocal agreement, INSHPO, mentoring options and reduced insurance. Five out of six Graduate members intent to remain a current members. Suggestions Alternative ZOOM H&S Committee meetings. Add resources from presentations and Minutes to Otago home page. 10
TECHNICIANS RESPONSES
12
13
4 Technicians responded to the survey, this response level is too shallow to extract reliable trends to base further strategy on, however it does provide a glint of what Technicians value. The highest rated reason that Technicians gave for being a member of NZISM included the ability to network with other OHS people, followed by holding a NZISM certificate. Technicians appear to show a greater appetite for peer networking and obtaining information and training resources. Networking may suggest OHS practitioners in the introductory phase of their career seeking other work opportunities. The higher value placed upon the NZISM certificate may be used for applying for work and individual career progression. The main areas that Technicians did not rate their membership included the IOSH reciprocal agreement, reduced insurances and mentoring options. Technicians value reduced insurance low, possibly because it is unlikely a Technician would be a practising Consultant. Further investigations could focus on the IOSH reciprocal agreement and INSHPO to evaluate the percentage of oversees OHS Practitioners wishing to be associated with NZISM. 100% of the Technician respondents stated they would remain as a current member. Reasons cited for impeding progression to the next level included time required, the process for accreditation and the wish that industry experience should be valued higher. 14
AFFILIATES RESPONSES
16
17
Affiliates represent the greatest proportion of NZIMS members. 10 Affiliates responded to the survey. Top reasons for membership included the ability to work with other OHS people, continual professional development and joint third reasons cited includes access to OH&S topic webinars and training and events. Elements least important to Affiliates included INSHPO, reduced insurance and IOSH reciprocal agreements. 7 of the Technician respondents stated they would remain as a current member, 2 were to change their membership and 1 did not respond to the question. For the services that Affiliates wanted NZISM to offer, suggestions included; increased opportunities for networking, CPD events both online and face to face, opportunities to observe other organisations and conference. For the type of events that Affiliates were interested in responses included; regular networking, ongoing webinars, participation in expo’s, roadshows with worksafe and industry groups, , guest speakers, site visits, training days and emerging trends information. Comments includes the consideration to include other members that live outside of Dunedin. 18
