Osnovna škola Bartola Kašića Vinkovci Erasmus+ project 2018 -2020 Stop Climate Change – Together Europe Achieves More ENERGY TRANSITION FORUM January 2019
Seminar on climate changes and energy transition was organised by EKO Kvarner, a nonprofit non-government organisation, and the City of Vinkovci. It was held on 17 and 18 January 2019. Seven teachers from Osnovna škola Bartola Kašića attended the forum on the importance of energy transition in the east of Croatia.
Eko Kvarner, a non-profit NGO, was founded in 2003 in Krk. Its goals are mitigating the effects of climate changes by energy transition, transition from using fossil fuels to using renewable sources of energy which do not pullute the ennvironment. The emphasis is on using solar energy, wind energy and biomass energy.
Mr Vjeran Piršić helps the citizens and city administrations in all parts of Croatia to see the advantages of using renewable sources of energy and gives advice how to start Energy transition agencies and cooperatives.
Wind energy can be used to produce electricity.
Photo-voltaic cells on roofs can produce electricity, it can be stored in batteries. Solar energy can also be used to heat water for households, hotels, etc.
The third similarity between Krk and Slavonija is biomass. Biomass is waste material from plants and animals. If it is thrown away, it produces methane and some other greenhouse gases. Biomass is a renewable source of energy and it should be used in order to solve the problem of polluting the environment. “Spačva “produces wooden pellets.
Dr Kata Krešić, head of the Department of Public Health, warned that climate changes are a serious threat to public health: heat waves cause problems and there are more diseased transferred by invasive alien animal and plant species.
