NORMATIVE FRAMEWORK Provision on organization educational programme based on credit system study developed in accordance with the Law on Education of the KR, Osh. SU Charter, compendium of normative documents on applying ECTS in the KR. This Provision establishes general requirements for organization of educational programme at the Osh. SU on introducing credit system of study (ECTS) and implementation of the KR Government’s Order № 496 of 23. 08. 2011

Credit system used at the institution • On August 23, 2011, higher professional education in the Kyrgyz Republic transitioned to the two-level structure. • Within the process of this transition linear system of education also transitioned to credit system study.

Alignment (or lack of) with the Bologna Process • In spite of the fact that already have passed 5 years since the introduction of two-level system of education in Kyrgyzstan, however, there deficiency of fundamental documents, which would allow to resolve some technical issues in smooth introducing credit system in high educational institutions.

Use (or lack of) ECTS • Organization of the educational programme based on credit system study at the Osh state university 1 credit of ECTS equals to 30 academic hours. Labour intensity of educational programmes are: preparation of bachelors – 240 credits, masters – 120 credits, programmes of preparation of specialists – 300 ECTS credits. • 60 credits equals to full load of the student during the one academic year. • • •

ORGANIZATION OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME • Credits appropriate to each discipline minimum 2 credits, included in curriculum except the “physical training” discipline. • Academic year consist of fall and spring semesters and holidays. Duration of the classes, exam sessions and holidays determines in weeks. Period of interim attestation has the duration of no less than 1 week. • Holidays provided for students after each semester, herewith duration of holidays is no less than 7 weeks in one academic year, including no less than 2 weeks after fall semester. • Professional internship is the compulsory component of educational programme of high professional education. It divides into academic, pedagogical, production and pre-qualification (pre-diploma). Total amount of all types of professional internship/practices are no less than 10 credits. • It is allowable introduction of summer semester with the duration up to 6 weeks to satisfaction of needs in additional study, except graduate academic year

TO IMPLEMENT ECTS CREDIT SYSTEM, UNIVERSITY APPLIES THREE TYPES OF CURRICULUMS: • Basic curriculum on preparation of focused area or specialty, which serves for determination of labour intensity of study work of the students for the whole period of study. Basic curriculum contains compulsory component (basic and profile), regulates amount of credits, which allocated for study compulsory and selective disciplines, sets terms and types of practices. • Working curriculum, serves for organization of educational programme during concrete academic year (including calculation of labour intensity of instructors). • Individual curriculum of the student, which determines his/her educational programme for the semester or academic year.

RECORDING OF THE CONTROL RESULTS OF KNOWLEDGES OF THE STUDENTS • Evaluation of knowledges of the students carried out on modularrating system. Every academic discipline consist of one or several modules, and each module from several control points tentative control (tasks, laboratory works, control works and etc. ) and midterm control. • As alternative for student’s record-book serves summary statement of final grades for the semester or for the whole period of study (further Transcript). • Student, who wants to receive the transcript, can order in Registration Office one of two forms of the transcript: official and unofficial. Typical transcript contains following information: - List of the disciplines, passed by the students for the whole period of the study at the university; - All grades, received by the students on exams; - Amount of credits, obtained by the students for one semester - Total number of credits for the whole of period of the study; - GPA for one semester or average GPA for all semesters.

SU applies multi-point system of evaluation with using alphabetical symbols that allows instructor to approach in flexible way to determine level of knowledges of the students. SCALE OF GRADES OF THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE: • • • I – assessment, graded in that case if student does not have time due to good excuses (serious illness (documented), travel or participation at the university activities, an emergency in the family), about which student should inform the instructor and Registration Office. Evaluation “I” is graded by the instructor. If the student has not fixed the grade “I” within one month from the beginning of the next semester (excluding the summer semester), he will automatically be given an “F” grade (not used in the GPA calculation). Р – grade, which allows the student to obtain only credits. “P” used in grading only on selected disciplines (not used in the GPA calculation). FX – student, graded “FX” can fix the grade within one month from the beginning of next semester (or in summer semester). The right for fixing is giving to the student by his/her claim in accordance with approved schedule of the Registration Office. Order and conditions of fixing of the grade “FX” establishes with appropriate provisions. If the student has not fixed the grade “FX” in established terms he/she automatically receives the grade “F” (not used in the GPA calculation). F – student graded “F” should repeat the same academic discipline, if it is mandatory discipline. In that case if the studet will be graded with “F” again for this discipline, he/she cannot continue the study within actual programme. W – grade, validated rejection of the student to study particular discipline. “W” graded by the instructor within terms, which established in Academic Calendar. Student signs established form by the Registration Office and should repeatedly study this discipline, if that is mandatory (not used in the GPA calculation). X – grade, which means that student was removed from the discipline by the instructor. Established form signs by the instructor and head of the programme. Student should repeat the same academic discipline, if it is mandatory discipline. If student graded with “X” again, he automatically receives “F”. Conditions of “X” grade mentions in the syllabus (not used in the GPA calculation).

Average point of the student counts based on the results of the study in every semester. • Results of the student’s performance record in the register, where indicates tentative control with taking into consideration results of the control points and points of the semester control.
