What is ORG? • Organization Resource Group (ORG) is the Student Life office that oversees all Recognized Student Organizations • Mission Statement: “The Organization Resource Group is a viewpoint-neutral group of students dedicated to educating student leaders about University policies and resources, consulting with organizations on how to meet their goals, and providing financial assistance through the Student Activity Fee for student organizations. ”

Why are you here? • Attending Administrative Training is an annual requirement for student organizations who wish to be recognized by the University of Missouri – Other requirements • Update Org. Sync portal • Attend all mandatory training sessions offered by the Club Sports Office • All members must fill out hold-harmless forms before participating in any sportsrelated club activities (try-outs, practices or competitions) • Appoint a representative to the Mizzou Club Sports Federation (MCSF) and fulfill their obligations for membership and good-standing • To learn about Organization Resource Group rules and policies • To learn about resources and opportunities for recognized student organizations

Standard of Conduct • A student organization recognized by the University of Missouri assumes an obligation to behave in a manner compatible with the University's function as an educational institution. Consequently, students and student organizations must adhere to community standards in accordance with the University’s mission and expectations. • These expectations have been established in order to protect a specialized environment conducive to learning which fosters integrity, academic success, personal and professional growth, and responsible citizenship.
Standard of Conduct • All student organizations must abide by the M-Book Regulations – Organizations can be collectively held accountable for the actions of individual members if it appears the organization has approved, condoned, allowed, encouraged, assisted or promoted such conduct – Organizations should be student led, student centered and student driven • All groups must abide by Missouri anti-hazing legislation • Student organizations are responsible for their own finances – Neither ORG nor MU assume any liability for group debts or lost funds • Events should appropriately reflect the values of the University • 200. 010 Standard of Conduct
Title IX • Student organizations must abide by all Title IX policies as specified in the Standard of Conduct section of the MBook • Organizations will be investigated if reports of the following behaviors arise: – Student organization approved, condoned, allowed or encouraged prohibited behavior – Prohibited behavior was committed by one or more officers – Organization resources, such as funds, listservs, message boards or organization locations were used for prohibited behavior
Student Organizations will be student-centered, student-driven and student-led. Control by any outside entity, public or private, or non-student of the university shall not be permitted
Operations and Procedures
Student Organization Operations • All student organizations must have an advisor – Advisor qualifications: • Must be a full-time, benefit eligible (. 75 FTE) MU faculty or staff member • Must be local (MU campus) and not on sabbatical – Advisors approve all Org. Sync updates, such as officer transitions – Student organizations should meet regularly with advisors, as they can be a great resource
Fiscal Responsibility • Organizations must comply with applicable law, University policies and good business practices • Separate financial duties to multiple people – Payment Authorization – Balancing accounts/ checkbook – Custody of assets (shirts, tickets, etc. ) • Save your receipts and make copies • Neither ORG nor MU assume any liability for group debts or lost funds
Room Reservations • All reservations: – Must be made by President or Vice President – Reservations cannot be completed if Org. Sync portal is out-of-date – Cancel request if you don’t need the space • The Missouri Unions – Student Center and Memorial Union – Must abide by Unions Policies • Organizations are liable for clean up and cancellation fees • All rooms come with a preconfigured set up that is free to use – Request rooms up to six months in advance • Academic Buildings, Outdoor Spaces and other Facilities – Classroom and outdoor spaces on campus – Request one semester at a time

Fundraising • Fundraising: Any revenue-generating activity, regardless of whether your organization turns a profit – Still a fundraiser whether it is for your group or an outside entity • All fundraisers on-campus must receive a fundraising permit – Fundraising Request Form on Org. Sync – Application MUST be submitted at least 2 weeks prior to event – All event permits must be submitted along with Fundraising Request Form (i. e. temporary food permit) – Fundraisers that occur over multiple days must have separate forms for every day • Collection cans/solicitation prohibited on campus – Are allowed to can on City of Columbia property
Publicity and Marketing • Advertising for Events – ORG Banners • Limited quantities per semester – MU Info and Maneater ads – Send out press releases for large events • Student Center – Column and bridge banners – TV Screens – Table Tents • Prohibited – Sidewalk Chalk – Posting
Event and Program Policies
Event Policies • Do not imply that the University of Missouri has the same aims, policies, programs, or opinions as your organization • Outside businesses may contribute to your events, but your group must always have top priority – Marketing materials must identify the student organization/event as the primary focus • Organization logo should be the biggest logo – Sponsor logos can come below student organization logo
Event Policies • Noise which interferes with academic activities is prohibited – The use of sound amplification devices in University buildings, or on any University site is prohibited unless approved by Auxiliary Service Operations (882 -7255), 304 Jesse Hall. • If bathroom facilities are not available, your organization must provide portable facilities • University Sanitarian must approve food preparation and serving
Event Policies • Open flames (e. g. candle light vigils, BBQs) must be approved by Environmental Health and Safety • If event needs security, must be arranged with MUPD – They have final decision on whether or not you need security – Only MUPD may provide security services – Not available during home football and basketball games
Film Policies • Typically, student organizations cannot show movies without special permission from the film producers • Student organizations may not show movies on campus until permission has been granted by the MSA/GPC Films committee • Consult the ORG Guidelines for Recognized Student Organizations for details on how to legally show films on campus
Street Closure Policies • Street closures must be approved not only by the University of Missouri but also by the city of Columbia • Process takes about 12 weeks – Make sure to plan ahead, double booking is typically not allowed • Fill out Org. Sync Street Closure Request Form – Once form is submitted, you will be contacted by the ORG office • Be aware that additional steps may be required for the type of street closure you want

Funding • MCSF Funding • Student Fee Capital Improvement Committee – Larger, capital improvements to campus • Be tangible • Must be stored on campus • Have an estimated useful life of five years or more • Cost a minimum of $1500
Resources Available to Orgs • ORG Equipment Checkout – Slide 32 – Available on a first come, first served basis • MSA/GPC Tech Support – Slide 35 – Can provide technical support for events such as lighting and sound • Use of MSA Box Office • Room Reservations – Slides 16 -18 – Missouri Unions – Academic Buildings, Outdoor Spaces and other Facilities

MSA/GPC Tech Support • Can provide staging, lighting, sound and projection for your event • Need 30 days notice
