Objectives: You’ll be able to answer the questions 1. What are three Organization Drivers? 2. What does PDSA stand for?
Objectives 1. Review 2. Revisit the Organization Drivers • Systems Interventions • Decision Support Data Systems • Facilitative Administration 3. Integrate Improvement Cycles • Demonstrate integration of this critical Implementation Framework 4. Understand the importance of Facilitative Administration • Support staff competency - implementation capacity and infrastructure development at each school
Review: Stages of Implementation Readiness • Developmental point • Exploration Sustainability • Installation • Begins in Exploration • Initial Implementation • Full Implementation Exploration Formalize teaming structures • The most underutilized • Determine need stage in implementation • Identify options • Assess “fit” and feasibility • Promote “buy-in
Review: Competency Drivers Staff Competency • Fundamental building block to implementation District Leadership Implementation Team • Who, What, Why, How Walkthroughs • District and Building Leadership • Become Familiar with School Practice • • Selection Training Coaching Performance Assessment • Membership (WHO? ) • Capacity Development (WHAT? ) • Function (WHY? ) • Tasks (HOW? ) • Common Language • Collective Commitment to improvement
District and Building Leadership Implementation Teams Let’s Chat Is your DLIT in place? What actions are you taking to develop or strengthen your relationship with principals and school staff? How is the planning or further development of Walkthroughs progressing? What are the next steps to ensuring your Building Leadership Implementation Teams (BLIT) are in place?

Plan-Do-Study-Act PDSA Improvement Cycle Rapid development and improvement of program components that happen frequently (e. g. classroom instruction occurs every day) 1. 2. 3. 4. Plans are clarified (Plan) Plans are carried out as intended (Do) The results are examined (Study) Actions are taken to improve the plan (Act) Process is repeated until exemplary outcomes are obtained (Cycle)
Systems Interventions: Purpose Identify barriers and facilitators for the new way of work through Implementation Science • Create a “hospitable” environment for implementing EBPs • Support cumulative learning and collective commitment across schools and initiatives
Systems Interventions: Best Practice • • Match leadership level needed to intervene Engage and grow “champions” Objectively document barriers Make constructive recommendations – Improvement Cycles • Plan-Do-Study-Act Cycle – Integrate the Decision Support Data Systems Driver
Decision Support Data Systems: Purpose Provide information to assess effectiveness of chosen evidence based practice Celebrate success Guide further program and practice development Engage in continuous quality improvement Be accountable for quality infrastructure (are Drivers ‘working’) • Be accountable for outcomes • •
Decision Support Data Systems: Best Practice Includes intermediate and long term outcome and fidelity measures Useful data are – Reliable (standardized protocols, trained data gatherers) – Reported frequently (e. g. weekly, quarterly) – Reported at relevant and “actionable” levels (e. g. student, classroom, school, district) – Widely shared and practical to collect – Useful for and used for making decisions (Plan-Do-Study. Act cycles)
Facilitative Administration: Purpose Supports Staff Competency • • • Facilitates moving through Stages Ensures effective use of Competency Drivers Takes the lead on Systems Interventions Utilizes data for improvement cycles Looks for ways to make work of teachers and staff easier and more effective
Facilitative Administration: Best Practices • Implementation Teams (DLIT & BLIT) are formed and functional • Use feedback to make changes in Implementation Drivers • Revises policies and procedures to support the new way of work (PIP PEP cycle) • Solicit and use feedback from teachers and staff • Reduce administrative barriers
Leadership Technical and Adaptive Technical and adaptive leadership styles are exercised to manage and continually improve the evidence based programs and implementation components to support and sustain high levels of staff performance
District Leadership Implementation Teams (DLIT) Assist in development of the BLIT and other School Implementation Teams Provides critical and active support to BLIT to make use of Implementation Science 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Develop school capacity Create readiness for change Use of Stages of Implementation Understanding and use of Drivers Application of Improvement Cycles (Plan-Do-Study-Act)
DLIT and BLIT: Knowledge of Data & Systems & Practices in each school 1. Decision Support Data Systems • What systems level data do you have to identify facilitators and barriers to implementation? 2. Systems Interventions • DLIT and BLIT are instructional leadership partners – Know level of practice in schools – Identify facilitators and barriers – Know how to intervene to support staff competency
District Leadership Implementation Team (DLIT) Let’s Chat How can walkthroughs provide you with information about Systems Intervention (facilitators and barriers)? Do Walkthroughs and conversations/interviews with principals raise questions about the important data that needs to be gathered analyzed (Decision Support Data Systems)?
