What it is. . . • • Organ harvesting- extracting and preserving of human organs and tissues. Organ donation- the donation of human tissues, or organs so that they can be used for someone in need.

Where does it often occur? • • It occurs almost everywhere. Illegal organ harvesting/donation occurs in third world countries.

When did it start? • • • During the 18 th century. By the mid-20 th century, successful transplants had been performed. Organ donation and harvesting started about 60 years ago. The first successful organ transplant was performed on December 23, 1954.

Who started/experimented first? Researchers started it and then doctors or surgeons started experimenting with it on living things like animals and humans.

How it exists in current society • • • Most countries and religions allow it. Japan is an exception to this. Different religions have different perspectives for Organ donation and harvesting.

Illegal procedures • • • Many people donate their organs illegally and they get a lot of money for this. Doctors/Surgeons are paid high amount of money to provide their patient with an illegal organ. Still done in many third world countries.
