Founding University of Miami Sought to stand out from Phi Beta Kappa Not an academic honor society Outstanding fraternity men who wanted to recognize Greeks for their service to the fraternity and university Constitution was approved April 14 th, 1959 First initiated members fall 1959
Purpose Recognize Encourage Inspire Unite
Expansion Second chapter chartered on February 9 th, 1967 at University of Southern Mississippi Become a co-ed organization in spring of 1977 Currently over 500 chapters in US and Canada Approximately 10 new chapters chartered each year

Scholarships and Awards Annually each chapter can nominate 2 members for undergraduates 2014 Awards: $67, 450 among 144 recipients Since 2000 $56, 5000 have been awarded to 60 chapters for Outstanding Chapter Award Over $1, 000 awarded since began scholarship program
Interesting Dates 1987: First student member 1987: First position statement 1987: Intro to Ritual was written by Barb Toole 1988: First chapter suspended for not initiating women, FSU
Highlights from 2014 -2015 University of Washington: held service event where members collected and donated books to inmates for the Book For Prisoners organization. Utah State University: chapter did “caroling for Coats” service project and collected over 100 coats for those in need in their county University of Wyoming: chapter hosted Hunger Week Food Drive and collected over 1, 000 items for local food pantry
