HOSTING CENTER FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES (THE CHABROUH PROJECT) 9
THE CHABROUH PROJECT 1. The Center 2. The Guests 3. The Volunteers 4. Spirituality and Service 5. Mission/Vision 6. Objective 7. New Delegations
1. THE CENTRE ●Home for more than 900 volunteers from all over the world. ●The only facility in the Middle East fully equipped to host holiday camps for the disabled. ●Hosts over 600 guests per year, and the number is increasing yearly. ●The Chabrouh center is located 60 km North East of Beirut, in the Kesrouan Mountains. It includes large terraces and breathtaking views over the Kesrouan valleys.
2. THE GUESTS (UNDERSERVED COMMUNITY) ●Our guests’ ages vary between 6 and 70 years of age. ●Our guests lack proper governmental support. A person with disability in Lebanon receives a daily allowance of $15 compared to $200 in countries like the UK. ●We host guests from four different psychiatric institutions. Due to lack of government support, our guests do not receive a 1 to 1 relationship with a caretaker in the homes. ●Some syndromes we host include: cerebral palsy, severe retardation, down syndrome, polyhandicap, epilepsy, and autism.
3. THE VOLUNTEERS ●Our volunteers are typically aged between 18 and 30 years of age. They require no prior experience with handling guests and will receive field training in camp. ●Our volunteers spend five full days with their guests in camp, providing them with the love, care, and one-on-one relationship they lack in their daily lives. Post camp, volunteers enjoy touristic trips in Lebanon. ● 12 different delegations organize camps in Chabrouh every year. The number of delegations is increasing with time. ●Camps serve as an educational bridge for the volunteers. They allow the strengthening of faith, self confidence, and respect towards others.
3. THE VOLUNTEERS - TEAM STRUCTURE ●Camp leader that makes sure ●Entertainment team is all camp operations are running smoothly, and relays rules and regulations to volunteers. Camp leader is helped by group leaders. assigned by camp leader and makes sure to set the daily activities of the camp and maintain high spirits and a joyful atmosphere. ●All teams also include a ●Logistics team assigned by camp leader to make sure all camp provisions are available, and to provide the mommies (parents of volunteers) in the kitchen with proper ingredients to prepare daily meals doctor and a priest for medical assistance and spiritual guidance.
4. SPIRITUALITY AND SERVICE Faith and Love Rediscovery of the basic tasks of church: • The service of the poor • The prayer and the liturgy of the Church • The testimony in the world
4. SPIRITUALITY AND SERVICE The service to the guests is the heart of all activities in Chabrouh The love shared between guests and volunteers is what drives the project and what makes it attractive The relationship between a guest and a volunteer is based on three things: loyalty, dignity and appeasement
5. MISSION/ VISION Mission: offering a one-on-one unique opportunity to bond with volunteers during a one week camp, where Love, Spirituality, Respect, Dignity and Social Values are the cornerstones for a better future to both volunteers and guests • Vision: promoting coexistence through a humanitarian project that brings together volunteers from all over the world to offer Love, Care, Compassion and Time to physically and mentally challenged individuals from all religious denominations in the Holy Land •
6. OBJECTIVE Reach 30 camps/ year with 750 guests and 1, 000 volunteers • Expanding networks of charity worldwide • Develop Chabrouh by sending teams and volunteers, creating ideas, and offering financial support • To provide a win-win experience for both the guests and the volunteers •
6. OBJECTIVE In order to propel this project to the next level and move from serving 600 guests per year to >1, 000 guests per year (from 10% to 25% of the demand), we needed to expand the existing capacity of the Center as well as increase the total number of camps organized each year • Every new nation or delegation has its share of talents and strengths that enriches the project • Serve more guests because there is still a huge number of forgotten people that deserve to live this experience of love •
7. NEW DELEGATIONS On their first year, new delegations join other experienced delegations as a small group (5 -10 people). • The aim is to gather as much knowledge and experience in order to come as an independent delegation in the year that follows. • New delegations get in contact with the Chabrouh team, the local team that organizes the camps, in order to plan their stay. •
