Some statisctics: • Population 3. 2868 mln. • Children and adolescents until age 18 - 19. 3% (0. 63 mln. ) of total population. • Number of the dentists 3400 • Number of the paediatric dentists 52. • 27% of the children are attending dentists in PHCC.
Oral health status among 3 -year-olds in Lithuania (Slabsinskiene E, 2004) • Prevalence of dental caries was 50. 6%. • dmft was 2. 1. (d - 1. 94 (91. 9%); f – 0. 17 (8. 1%), and no extracted teeth). • Oral hygiene according to index Silness – Loë was good. • Prevalence of “baby bottle caries” was 6. 45% with mean dmft 8.
Oral health status among the first grade schoolchildren (Maciulskiene et al. , 2000) Age was 6 -7 years. Prevalence of dental caries in primary dentition was 86% and df-t - 3. 4. Prevalence of dental caries in permanent dentition was 34% with DMFT 0. 6 Mostly affected teeth were first molars and comprise 69. 4% of all affected permanent teeth.

First level Dental treatment is provided for all patients in public dental service and in private dental clinics which have contract with CHIF (13 €). Second level Consultation of the specialist. Visit is paid by CHIF if patient is referred by general dentist (12. 4 €). Third level Consultation of the specialist. Expenses are covered by CHIF if patient is referred by the general dentist (28 €).
Problems: • Parients do not get enought information about proper oral hygiene, healthy diet. • Childrens oral health care is mainly based on parients attitude
Future perspectives: • Routine check up is followed by record of the dentist in the patient health status file which is a main document for the child before every school year. • Consultation with manipulation payment by national Health Insurance Fund. • Public Health Centers are recommended to provide oral health preventive measures by organizing educational measures.
