Partnership with the Insurance Industry 1. The Corporation of Lloyds and the UK Financial Services KTN have made a proposal to ESA to maximise the potential for space-based services in the re/insurance industry. 2. Insurance and Space Applications steering Group (ISAG) is being set up: a. Outline modus operandi agreed; b. first meeting planned for end March, hosted by Lloyds; c. FS KTN will provide the secretariat function. 3. Membership of 10 -12 leading players from re/insurance sector (PERILS AG is being invited), plus ESA and national programmes. 4. ISAG will gather user requirements from re/insurance industry and review them with space industry members. 5. One-stop-shop to match user needs with co-funding programmes. 6. The ISAG may also help to broaden the funding available for development of future space-based services. ESA UNCLASSIFIED – For Official Use

ITT for services to the Insurance Industry: Loss adjustment and claims settlement 1. Insurance industry workshop in London confirmed need for an integrated solution that would improve efficiency and safety of loss adjusters. 2. Also need for better information management and potential cost savings throughout the value chain. 3. The solution would be built around a geo-tagged device linked to a core satcoms capability: a. assessors in the field would use GNSS-enabled, handheld satphones, or smartphones linked by Wi. Fi to a field base equipped with a high bandwidth mobile satcoms device; b. enables a secure, two-way, high-speed voice and data link to their HQ and coordination of local operations, when terrestrial infrastructure is destroyed or overloaded. 4. Assessors then remotely file reports on the impact on the insurer’s clients and include their estimates on the size of claims that are likely to be made, dramatically improving speed and accuracy of claims settlement. ITT for services the Insurance Industry: Loss adjustment and claims settlement (2) 1. GNSS will aid identification of correct locations and geo-tagging of photo/video and written assessments of damage, and enable monitoring of the assessors’ locations for both safety and logistics. 2. Up-to-date maps need to be included in the solution, using satellite and airborne EO data to show the extent of devastation: Ø before-and-after images, transmitted to the local assessors in real or near-real time. 3. In addition, better coordination is needed between underwriters who use surveyors to price risk in advance of a loss event, and loss adjusters who are called in after a catastrophe: 5. Aim is to create a feedback mechanism so all exposure data is updated following loss events, leading to better risk modelling and pricing. 4. ITT for an IAP Feasibility Study is due for release in Q 2 2013, likely value € 300, 000. ESA UNCLASSIFIED – For Official Use

M) objectives. So, in cooperation with industry, users, private and institutional partners, ESA and EIB will initiate activities addressing the use of space technology and services for the benefit of the citizens of the Uf. M, through a programme called ‘Space for MED’ Programme management is in conjunction with LUXINNOVATION, the national innovation agency in Luxembourg.
