Operational Tasks • Class 1 Tasks – ACR shifts only – Counted in 8

Operational Tasks • Class 1 Tasks – ACR shifts only – Counted in 8 hour shifts – 17, 500 in 2010: estimate 10, 300 in 2011 ~18 down to ~10 Desks in ACR • Class 2 Tasks – On-calls, run coordinators, remote DQ etc – Counted in 8 hour shift equivalents • Usually 1 day = 1 shift, but different weightings apply – 46, 000 in 2010: estimate 46, 000 in 2011 Why has this number not reduced? • Class 3 Tasks – Any other ongoing operational task – Counted in FTEs – 650 in 2010: estimate 650 in 2011 24/02/2011 Bham OTP Status Class 3 is a rather difficult to normalise! 1

Bham Share (~20/2500 Authors) • No ‘balance’ from 2009 • Serious bean-counting starts from 01/01/2010 • Still no ‘balance’ from 2010 • But I think that will change when 2010 finalised • Class 2 tasks already look worrying 24/02/2011 Bham OTP Status 2

Comments • Class 3: Not a problem – Not sure if anyone really believes

Comments • Class 3: Not a problem – Not sure if anyone really believes the numbers anyway! • Class 1: OK, but don’t relax – Lots of shifts still needed in Summer + Autumn • Personal note: 50% of booked shifts are SJH – returns in July – Trigger desk is relatively easy to Train for (EVO) – Other suggestions: DQ, Tier 0 • Class 2: Needs work, even if quota is over-estimated – Level-1/L 1 Calo on-calls reduced in 2011 • Also remember SJH note above – Distributed Analysis shifts made a big contribution – Other remote shifts added up too – Trigger on-calls are fewer and probably harder to get this year 24/02/2011 Bham OTP Status 4
