Risk Assumptions & Constraints Methodology Risk Challenges & Successes Lessons learned 1. Risks need to be planned for from the conception of the project to enhance the chance of success by reducing uncertainty. 2. A risk register is used to track the risks for the project by monitoring the probability and severity of the risks. 3. The register tracks both negative and positive risks which need to be monitored and controlled for the life of the project to identify the impact. 4. All key stakeholders should have input in the identification of risks for the register. 5. Both internal and external risks must be considered. 6. Diagramming is a technique used to show the information collected for risk management (i. e. Cause & effect, Flow charts, Influence diagrams, Histograms). 7. Analysis methods like SWOT, Quantitative Risk and Sensitivity analysis are used to identify the potential of the risks to the project. 8. As you can see Risk Management is a very important part of Project Management.
Challenges and Successes Challenges Assumptions & Constraints Methodology Risk Challenges & Successes Lessons learned 1. To create a unique web site incorporating all the knowledge areas of the PMBOK 2. Search for a Web Host, tools and server 3. Design the site to be simple and clear for all the visitors 4. Internet and server connection 5. Consolidation of all the information 6. The fact the project team had only one day per week to organize/plan 7. Successes 8. Getting the right web host 9. Understanding the server tools required for creating the pages 10. Successful weekly update of a new chapter after quality approval 11. Launching the website on time including all the necessary information 12. The fact the team all pulled together, communicated and worked around any obstacles and barriers
Lessons Learned Assumptions & Constraints Methodology 1. Attendance ü Scope and baseline information are delivered ü Methodology is explained ü Schedule is created Risk 2. Project Manager Assignment ü Assign early to avoid confusion Challenges & Successes Lessons learned ü Directs the information / communication flow ü Keeps the project on schedule and holds team members accountable
Lessons Learned Assumptions & Constraints Methodology 3. Communications Platform ü Agree early on medium for all communication ü Identify Roles and Responsibilities and make accountable ü Agree on schedules and hold accountable Risk 4. Logbooks Challenges & Successes Lessons learned ü Implement at project start ü Keep up to date
Lessons Learned Assumptions & Constraints Methodology Risk Challenges & Successes Lessons learned 5. Continuous Risk Assessment ü Identify risk early and keep risk management at the forefront ü Don’t be afraid to implement a back-up plan 6. Utilize Previous Formats & Knowledge ü Choose formats that you are experienced in ü Don’t re-invent the wheel – use successful practices ü Utilize existing skill set – if you have a computer engineer, then use computers
