Department of Dental Hygiene Mission Statement Our mission is two fold: 1. To prepare licensed dental hygienists for contemporary and advanced dental hygiene practice 2. To enhance the oral health of underserved and diverse populations.

Departmental Goal To confer Bachelor of Science degrees to students committed to becoming community-minded oral health care providers with the intention of enhancing the oral health of underserved and diverse populations.
BSDH Program Acceptance Requirements q Admission to Metropolitan State University q Minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2. 5 • q Transcript reflecting conferred Associate of Science/Associate of Applied Science degree in Dental Hygiene • v The GPA used for acceptance assessment is the cumulative GPA calculated from courses listed on all transcripts. Students within 12 credits of graduating with their AS/AAS in Dental Hygiene may be conditionally admitted to the program. Students participating the a Dual Admission and Enrollment program with one of our partner institutions may be accepted without a current license and completion of their AS/AAS.
Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene Degree Components q AS/AAS in Dental Hygiene (or participation in the Dual Admission & Enrollment program with a partner institution) q 7 Dental Hygiene courses q 3 Supporting courses (Statistics, Medical Ethics, and Writing for the Major) q Completion of all General Education and Liberal Studies (GELS) requirements q Minimum of 120 semester credits • Electives may be required to reach 120 credits. q Minimum of 30 semester credits completed at Metro State q Minimum of 40 upper division semester credits.

Dental Hygiene Major Courses (DENH) DENH 300 Designing and Managing Teams (3 cr. ; summer) DENH 310 summer) Current & Relevant Topics for the Dental Hygienists (3 cr. ; DENH 320 Management of Oral Health Care Delivery (3 cr. ; spring) DENH 330 Dental Hygiene Care for Culturally Diverse and Special Needs Populations (3 cr. ; fall) DENH 340 Educational Concepts in Dental Hygiene (3 cr. ; spring) (or DENH 420 Restorative Functions [4 cr. ] for RF certification or MSADT prerequisite) DENH 410 Evidence-Based Dental Hygiene Practice (3 cr. ; spring) DENH 430 Dental Hygiene Capstone (4 cr. ; spring) v Students may take both DENH 340 and 420. DENH 420 is required for admission into the MSADT program and for Restorative Functions certification.

This is a tentative plan and can be updated as needed. Register for classes

Send updated transcripts if you continue to take courses at other institutions. • Transcript Updates from other MN State institutions are easy to request online. High demand classes fill quickly.
