One-state vs. Two state Which is the most viable option? • One-State – Two-state won’t work because of border wars, checkpoints, and limited freedom of movement – Israelis, according to the 1967 borders will never give up access to the old city & will not remove settlements from the WB and E. Jerusalem • • Jewish settlers become members of the Palestinian state? Jewish settlers all relocate to Israel proper – The current “grid” is immovable – Co-existence & interaction is the only way to achieve true peace – Equal rights for all inhabitants regardless of race, ethnicity, or religion – Interaction and coexistence is the only way to true peace – It already is one-state…? – Secular and democratic state while still keeping Jewish presence and culture • Two-state – Palestinian statehood/Israeli statehoodeach would have own govt. , flag, culture, etc. – Israel will never agree to give Palestinians Israeli citizen. Israelis will be outvoted. Democracy would make them a minority in the only Jewish majority state in the world – One-state would negate Israel’s status as a homeland for Jews; Two-state would preserve Israel as a homeland for Jews – Security issues- violence btw. Jews and Arabs is inevitable – If Israel won’t stop building settlements in the WB, what makes us think they will ever give Palestinians Israeli citizenship – With a single state, who will govern it? – Desired by many on both sides.
