Comparing Anatomy: Squid Creating the Squid Scienstructable What You Do: Once you have completed

Comparing Anatomy: Squid Creating the Squid Scienstructable What You Do: Once you have completed your key, begin the reading to determine what all of these structures do – many of them have the same function as human beings! Remember to use good reading strategies as you read. On your paper, write a brief description of the structure and/or function of each organ in the appropriate column. For example: Number Organ Color Function 1 Mantle Skin color Outer surface of body; covers major organs Skin color Pigmented cells that can change color; located on the mantle 2 Chromatophores © Getting Nerdy, 2012 to present All rights reserved

Comparing Anatomy: Squid Creating the Squid Scienstructable What You Do: (continued. . . )

Comparing Anatomy: Squid Creating the Squid Scienstructable What You Do: (continued. . . ) 1. Using scissors or a blade, CAREFULLY cut out your squid and all structures - no jagged edges! DO NOT cut off the tabs as you will use these to assemble your squid. 2. Glue your Scienstructable Key and Function sheet to one side of your construction paper, placing glue on the back of the tab where is says GLUE HERE. You should be able to see both sides of your paper. To conserve paper, it is best if the pages are printed front to back. *All numbers and letters on your finished model should line up when pasted together, so please pay attention to how you glue your model together. © Getting Nerdy, 2012 to present All rights reserved

Comparing Anatomy: Squid Creating the Squid Scienstructable What You Do: (continued. . . ) For all structures to be pasted down, you will apply glue to each tab as directed and match up the lettered tabs as follows: 1. Find the DORSAL MANTLE and the INTERNAL MANTLE. Apply glue to the back of the INTERNAL piece and align it to the BACK side of the DORSAL MANTLE piece. When attached properly, you should be able to see the inside and outside of the dorsal surface of the squid. © Getting Nerdy, 2012 to present All rights reserved

Fold the triangular tabs SF 1 on the black line of the VENTRAL SWIMMING FINS so they are out of the way. Apply glue to the back of the VENTRAL SWIMMING FINS and align to the BACK side of the DORSAL SWIMMING FINS. When attached properly, you should be able to see the dorsal and ventral surface of the swimming fins and the tabs SF 1 should be free. 3. Apply glue to the tabs SF 1 and attach the SWIMMING FIN ASSEMBLY by tabs SF 1 to SF on the DORSAL MANTLE. © Getting Nerdy, 2012 to present All rights reserved

Apply glue to the tab and attach the DIGESTIVE SYSTEM by tab V 1 over V on the VENTRAL HEAD ASSEMBLY. 13. Find the appropriate reproductive GONADS based on your gender determination. If your squid is MALE, find the TESTES and attach them by tab O 1 to O on the DIGESTIVE SYSTEM. If your squid is FEMALE, find the OVARIES and attach them by tab O 1 to O on the DIGESTIVE SYSTEM. 14. Apply glue to the tab and attach the CIRCULATORY/RESPIRATORY SYSTEM by tab O 2 over O 1 on the GONADS. 15. Apply glue to the TOP of each tab F 2 of the SIPHON.
