The CAD/CAM System: OMEGA® Hardware Review The OMEGA® Scanner 3 D is a handheld, non-contact shape capture device used for prosthetic and orthotic applications. It features a large scanning area and uses structured-light technology to capture shapes and create the 3 D image. Only one or two scanning targets are required to denote shape landmarks. The scanned shape generates directly in the OMEGA® software so clinicians may immediately see exactly what is captured. It is accurate to +/- 0. 5 mm. The OMEGA® Structure Sensor is the first 3 D sensor for mobile devices used in the orthotic and prosthetic industry. It uses structured-light technology to capture an object and is accurate to +/- 4 mm from a distance of 40 cm. It is compatible with the i. Pad and i. Pad Mini and is suitable for scanning upper and lower extremity residual limbs, Ankle Foot Orthosis shapes, and spinal shapes. The OMEGA® Tracing Hardware is a portable system shape capture device, which allows for “hands-on” contact with the patient. It includes a Tracing Pen, Patient Sensor, Transmitter Cube, Wand. XTension, Digital Caliper Attachment, and Carrying Case. The OMEGA® Carver is the fastest and most economical carver of its size. It is fully integrated with OMEGA® software. Its 3 -axis carver is small enough to fit through a standard door, and it features an integrated dust and debris collection system. It carves the full range of orthotic and prosthetic shapes.
