Olympic Kit Design Brief
Olympic Kit Design Brief Your task is to create an official uniform or kit for the 2021 Great Britain Olympic Team. The official uniform is something the athletes will wear at the opening and closing ceremony. The kit is specific to each particular sport so all kit will have a similar logo and colour but garments will vary depending on the needs of the sport.
Identify the Problem You need to decide what your challenge is going to be. Are you going to design an official uniform? OR Are you going to design sports kit? If you are designing sports kit you will need to decide which sport you want to design for. Photo courtesy of loicwood (@flickr. com) - granted under creative commons licence - attribution
Brainstorm and Research Brainstorm the information you will need in order to complete your challenge successfully. Research could include: • The temperature in July of the country the GB Team will be competing in, in this case Japan. • The official logos/flags/emblems that may need to be included somewhere on the clothing. • The specific needs of the sport you might be designing kit for. • The types of material that might be best suited for the task. • How the design might vary for men and women. Now research the answers to your questions. Photo courtesy of Philo Nordlund (@flickr. com) - granted under creative commons licence - attribution
Design You should now have researched the needs of your product and can begin the creative process of designing. Take a piece of paper and start to sketch out some ideas. Remember at this stage your work will be very rough. There’s lots of ways to approach this part of the challenge, you may already have a strong idea that you can sketch and adapt or you may wish to try several different ideas before you start sketching and adapting one you really like. Create You should now have lots of sketches. These might look quite messy or unclear. The next stage is to create a final product. On a fresh page in your jotter or on a fresh piece of paper draw your final design. It should be carefully drawn and include colour and written information to clarify details. Present It’s now time to present your ideas. Ask someone in your household to look at your work. What do they think? It’s unusual for something to be perfect first time. Customers often love a design but still want to make little changes. Don’t be afraid to ask for constructive feedback. At this point you may need to redesign and then evaluate again or you may be ready to call your work complete. If it’s complete you could share it in your class Team or with other family members. Well done! Photo courtesy of Philo Nordlund (@flickr. com) - granted under creative commons licence - attribution
