Peer Counsellors at OKM PCs are older students in the school that have hand picked because they are kind, friendly and love to meet people and make them feel at home. Every grade 7 student will be given a PC each semester (2 different ones throughout the year). Your PC will take you out of class about once a month for a visit to see how things are going for you at OKM and to become your friend. You will also meet the PCs at your first day orientation in September because they will be there having fun with you.

Grad Transitions or MAP – My Action Plan Graduation Transitions is a requirement for all BC secondary school students graduates. It is intended to prepare students for a successful transition to life after secondary school. In order to meet this goal, Graduation Transitions encourages students to: o o take ownership of their own health and learning examine and demonstrate connections between their learning and their future create a plan for their growth and development as skilled, healthy, knowledgeable, participating citizens exhibit attributes of a Central Okanagan learner For full details on School District No. 23 Graduation Transitions (MAP) please go to: www. sd 23 map. com
Other Grad Requirements All students must take at least one Fine Art OR Applied Skills course in grade 10 OR 11 OR 12. All students must have English/ Communications 12 and a minimum of any three other grade 12 courses.
Dual Credit Programs Dual Credit programs allow students the opportunity get a head start on a career while earning both high-school credits and post-secondary credentials during their last year of high school. o ACE IT (Partnership programs) - With our post-secondary partners OC & BCIT students are enrolled in Entry Level Trades Training programs such as CARPENTRY, ELECTRICAL, CHEF , etc. o SSA (Secondary School Apprenticeship) - Trades apprenticeship training (work and school combined) – ANY TRADE o School Based Programs – such as FORESTRY, HAIRDRESSING and FIREFIGHTING
Post-secondary Prep Considerations 1. Universities typically require 4 (or 5) academic courses for admission. Your admission average will be calculated based on these courses. 2. Foundations Math 12 is not included by most institutions in their list of approved academic courses. 3. Many institutions have an entrance requirement for Math 11. 4. A few BC institutions have an entrance requirement for a second language. 5. Humanities students at UBC will require a second language 12 as an exit requirement. 6. Many institutions have an English language requirement which is a minimum acceptable grade in English 12. It varies by institution and program. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILTY OF STUDENTS AND PARENTS TO CHECK INDIVIDUAL INSTITUTION REQUIREMENTS
