WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY ONLINE & OFFLINE? The terms "online" and "offline" have specific meanings in regard to computer technology and telecommunications. Though common vernacular refers specifically to an Internet connection, the general definition of "online" simply indicates a state of connectivity, while "offline" indicates a disconnected state.

THE GOOD: ONLINE COMMUNICATION §it allows attaching a document, an image, or an audio file, and the message becomes quite reasonable §some cases, distant relationships develop into personal §young people prefer to get acquainted in the web which gives them more self -confidence and space for communication §Develop skills needed in a technological world §Can provided fast communication to those that not be reached in person.

THE BAD: ONLINE COMMUNICATION §easy to miss an angry look or a wry grin of the recipient §reduces the development of the emotional intelligence §the ability to express emotions and to understand other people §does not strengthen strong relationships like love, friendship, or neighborhood § allows people to "embellish" their biography, experience, skills §feedback is limited §Hard for friendships to succeed §Can hinder the development of face to face communication

A LOOK AT ONLINE DATING TRUTH §Taken from Nicole Ellison works at Michigan State University, and primarily looks at the links between online and offline communication processes: User perceptions are important, but a lot of offline activity is hidden (for various reasons). Nicole talked about self-presentational goals in online dating, and how the eventual meeting or date will temper what you will present online. They took participants into the lab, weighed them, looked at their driver’s license to find out their age, in order to get ground truth on how people are misrepresenting themselves online. They found that 81% provided deceptive information (87% males, 75% females) of some sort. The majority of lies were only a 1% to 5% deviation from one’s actual self. But there were some whoppers: 3 inches in height, 35 pounds in weight, and 9 years in age! Question: If these are “adults”, are tweens/teens embellishing just as bad in their own situations?

Online and offline do not contradict, but complement each other, there is a harmony, and it is the most sensible style of communication.
