Continuation: • Decided to create 3 files per chapter: grammar, exercises and culture. • Had a short frame to create material

Google documents and Insert creative commons clipart �Found that if we use insert from web creative commons clipart, 90% of the graphics are CCO. �The 10% that is not, will not be allowed to be inserted into the document. �From the 90% that is CCO, in reality 1% will need especial attribute for licensing. �Thought it was good until actually talked to Creative Commons at a Conference this past October.
Development • Wanted to make sure all chapters had graphics • We advanced rapidly from May 15 th 2018 to August 31 2018 and we created 9 chapters • Chapters included, reading, writing and speaking exercises. Only Audio was included in exams. • Set up materials in Brightspace and Mypima • At the beginning 2 files, it was easier to just focus on one thing at a time, either grammar or exercises • The idea was always to unite both files • Has very strong vocabulary with pictures • Created 9 exams also posted in D 2 L
Important information �Google Doc was hard to work. Very dangerous �Was also convenient for 4 of us to get in and out of the same document while remote �After losing materials, we decided only person to be the person working on the master �Problems were: errors, auto correction, lack of examples on exercises, �Exam sections did not open in brightspace �Problems of accessibility ADR
Implementation: 6 classes, 3 Spa 101 and 3 Spa 102 �Fall 2018 �Explained to students that it was a pilot program: mistakes errors �SPA 101: Preliminary, 1, 2, 3, 4 �SPA 102: 5, 6, 7, 8
Students received: �Packages printed by Pima Community College for each chapter. �Posted the 3 files within MYPIMA: Grammar � Exercises � Culture �Access to exams in Brightspace �Filled a survey and the responses were extremely positive. �They felt happy to be in class and participate in the program.
Student’s perception of OER Very satisfied with materials Liked combination of graphics and words Did not like 2 separate files to study from Everyone felt included Students felt that everyone had an equitable education OER was innovative In the 102 level, students were able to be co-creators of stories in preterite and imperfect

Cuando tenia 8 años jugaba baloncesto en el barrio de Nueva York. Yo jugaba con mis amigos cerca de la Estatua de la Libertad. Mi comida favorita era huevo. Cuando yo tenía 12 años yo me mudé a la ciudad china. En la ciudad china, montaba mi bicicleta con mis dos hermanos. Mis hermanos se murieron durante mi quinceañera. Tomaron veneno de ratas. Ellos creían que el veneno era absynth. Nadie tenía pantalones. Las personas de la fiesta no tenían pantalones porque El zorro Swiper lo robó. El nombre de mi madre era Rosa.
What we learned We are transforming our institution, one class at a time We are helping many students, the affect is huge We saved in 6 classes $34, 800, if we add the rest of the classes it would be even more. As faculty members, we feel renewed, enthusiastic, creative, not stagnant We updated the course materials to match our city, common places, people we know. Everything takes place in Tucson. Students had fun while creating stories.
What we learned: �There is no difference between Textbook vs. OER, in terms of learning. �Students have been extremely appreciative of our efforts �We did not lose as many students as we usually do �Those that need 2 semesters are continuing on
Future of OER �Pedagogy will change, will be progressive and innovative �Newer ideas, new platforms, new forms of delivery will be used �Exams on phone or survey type
