Game Criteria Learning: The main objective of the student developers of the game Odyssey was to incorporate some form of learning. Whether that lied in the development of the game, or in the elements of the game itself. They wanted to make a game that inspired thought. Negatives about Odyssey Sound Voice Acting Getting stuck in spots.
Sound ● ● The Ballad in Odyssey is very enchanting and beautiful. Voice Volume vs Music Volume – I found myself switching the volume on my computer quite often during this game. Some parts were very loud while other parts were extremely quiet. I would prefer if I didn't have to touch my volume controls while playing.
Voice Acting ● Although the Soundtrack meshes well with the overall feel of the game I felt the voice acting did not. ● The main character seems to be some kind of tribal barbarian and yet her voice sounds like person from our present day. ● The voice of the village elder sounded like someone from an office as opposed to an old village elder. ● I felt there was a severe lack of passion and real acting, everyone sounds very monotone.
Getting Stuck in Spots ● Odyssey features a very fun movement system. Gliding from rock to rock is very fun and it's enjoyable to try and figure out the platforming puzzles. ● Since the movement is very open ended it is very easy to get stuck in between rocks that you cannot get out of. ● I found myself having to restart the game twice just to get out of a spot I was stuck in. ● The game would benefit from a button to get you unstuck so you don't have to lose progress by getting stuck.
Conclusion ● ● Although there are some negative qualities in the game Odyssey. The game is quite enjoyable to play and I think the development team did a great job. Thank you for listening to our presentation.
