Odysseus is the ruler of Ithaca. He and his wife, Penelope, just gave birth to there son Telemachus.

Athena tells him to fight in the Trojan war.

Odysseus’s helpers are his ship crew, Athena and Hermes.

Odysseus leaves Ithaca and sets sails to Troy where he will spend ten years fighting.

Odysseus encounters a Cyclops that he tricks into not eating him and his crew by saying that he’s magical. Then Odysseus and his men blind the Cyclops and escape. Odysseus ends up on Calypso’s island where calypso falls in love with him, and keeps him prisoner for seven years. Hermes comes to the island tells Calypso that Zeus demanded that Odysseus was to be set free.

A challenge that Odysseus faces is the sirens(winged like creatures that resemble women that lure men to their death by singing). Odysseus has his men put wax in their ears so they wouldn’t be lured in. He then told his crew to tie him down so he could hear the sirens. They managed to pass the sirens with out losing a man and the sirens drowned themselves.

Odysseus’s ship mates are killed off by Scylla(a six headed monster) and Charybdis(a giant whirlpool). His ship is destroyed, and he is only left afloat by a piece of wreckage from his ship.

Odysseus builds a raft and leaves Calypso’s island.

Odysseus returns to Ithaca twenty years later, meets his son for the first time and Athena disguised him as an old man so the suitors would not realize it was him.

The only things that Odysseus brought back from his journey was his knowledge and his rage towards the suitors.

After twenty years, Odysseus finally returned home and clamed his right full place as ruler of Ithaca.
