A Note from Ms. Wright: • • • Letters regarding conferences and appointment times will be sent home in your child’s planner on Wednesday October 9 th. Conferences will be held on Monday, October 14, 2019 in my classroom (Room 50). Please save and send in your Box Tops! Please remember that any birthday treats you’d like to send in to school for your child’s special day must be approved by the office two weeks in advance. It has been a pleasure getting to know all of you and your child so far. A Peek At What We Are Learning Reading Writing Math Fifth graders will continue to work on identifying nonfiction text features. We will then move on to identifying cause and effect relationships within text. Fluency and stamina will also continue to be influenced. Please encourage your child to read 20 minutes per night. Students will be working on the steps of the Writing Process through writing prompts. We will be wrapping up multiplication of whole numbers and volume. Students will then begin working on rounding decimals and decimals within word problems. Mean, mode, and range will be the next skill we will explore. Science Students will continue to focus on the Sound Unit in class. Wavelengths, pitch, frequency, amplitude are concepts students will be learning about in this unit. Students will have an opportunity to create a musical instrument to demonstrate to the class. Social Studies Students will learn how Native American Indians used the different resources in their environment to meet the basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter.
