OCR GCSE DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY NEA A guide to the NEA WHAT IS THE NEA? Non Examined Assessment The NEA is the ‘coursework’ part of the GCSE D&T course which is worth 50% of pupils final GCSE grade. The contexts from OCR, which the NEA is based around each year, are available to staff on June 1 st. Staff have since set several Explore tasks on itslearning for pupils to complete for the first part of the NEA. The Iterative Design Process WHAT IS EXPECTED? The NEA will be the main focus of learning in D&T between now and Easter 2021. Students will be expected to produce a portfolio of between 20 -25 A 3 pages detailing their design journey. Pupils will use the iterative design process throughout their work, centred around the three main assessment areas of exploration, creativity and evaluation. NEA Strand Outlines THE 5 ASSESSMENT STRANDS OF THE NEA There are 5 sections of the NEA which have a combined total of 100 marks: Strand 1 – Explore – 20 marks Strand 2 – Create: Design Thinking – 24 marks Strand 3 – Create: Design Communication – 16 marks Strand 4 – Create: Final Prototype – 20 marks Strand 5 – Evaluate – 20 marks

What is expected this term LEARNING FROM 1 st JUNE - SEPTEMBER The NEA was launched on 8 th June with pupils by their subject teacher through itslearning. Pupils started by identifying a suitable problem to solve by mind mapping, creating a mood board analysis existing products. On the Design and Technology SR day pupils re-capped the tasks that had been by subject teachers and to outline future tasks. Pupils then wrote design briefs and started drawing their initial 15+ ideas.
