Ocean Food Chain By: Kaylin Cook
What is a food chain? A food chain is the passing of energy through one organism to another. All food chains start with the sun. The energy that comes from the sun goes to a producer. A producer is a plant that makes it’s own food. All the energy gets passed on to a consumer that eats the producer. The next link in a food chain is another consumer. Food chains can be any length depending what the top consumer is. producer consumers
My food chain has 7 links to it. It takes place all over the ocean.
The sun gives out energy to the moss The crab eats the Zooplankton The moss grows on the ocean rocks The crab makes a good snack for the jellyfish All the energy gets passed on through each animal. The Zooplankton eats the moss Sea turtles favorite snack is jellyfish
The killer whale eats the shark and gets lots of energy The shark eats the turtle and gets all the energy to hunt
In this way energy is passed down through each organism. So here’s how it works…. . The sun gives energy to the organism , for example, moss. The moss uses the energy to make food, in a process called photosynthesis. Then the Zooplankton eats the moss and takes some of the energy from the moss. Along comes the crab and eats the Zooplankton and gains more energy. The jellyfish is desperate for food so it eats the crab and gets the energy through the crab to survive. The turtle needs a tasty snack and eats the jellyfish and gets all the energy. Here comes the shark and uses up all the energy from the last meal and needs more. The shark eats the turtle and get more energy. The killer whale is a top consumer. It eats the shark, and gets enough energy until it next meal.
All the energy gets passed along. Like us humans we don’t like to eat the same food over and over again. This is why animals come up in different food chains. That is how a food web is created!!!!! SEE THE EXAMPLE!!!!
Food web Do you know what a food web is? ? ? See food web on the next page. A food web is where one animal eats more than one organism, so they pop up in different food chains. Imagine that you have to eat a peanut butter and honey sandwich every day. It would be boring. That is why animals eat different things. When animals pop up in lots of different food chains and eat other organism in the food chain, a food web is created. ( Dha Dha, AMAZING!!)
Food web .
How food chains & webs can be affected Lets say that a cruise ship is in the middle of the ocean. A bunch of people throw litter into the water. The turtles eat the trash and die. The predator of the turtle goes hungry and dies. All the predators above the turtle in the chain go hungry and die. The whale can’t eat the hammer head shark anymore because the shark is somewhere else or dead.
So take care of the world and we will have all of the animals.
SAVE THE FOOD CHAINS!!!!! Food chains happen all over the world. Energy is given to us from organisms in the ocean. If we litter, food chains can be affected. If the animals disappear, we will have a harder time making energy. That’s why we should be careful what we do to the food chains.
