Archaeological Findings… Archaeologists have discovered a lot of information about past civilizations by digging and excavating. a) Digs in Ancient Sumer have given us more information about early life there b) The archaeological dig that uncovered King Tut’s tomb that was undisturbed helped give us better insight into the ancient Egyptians belief in afterlife c) Similarly, archaeological digs in Pompeii have given us a lot of insight into this ancient city – especially since it was preserved by the ash from the volcano Unit 10 Lesson 7
Looking into the Past… • Almost nothing was seen of Pompeii for about 1500 years! • Now, thousands of years later, we are learning more and more about the last days of Pompeii. • Pompeii has preserved a way to look at the past. • We can look into the daily lives of people living in the ancient Roman Empire. What was life like in Pompeii? • Pompeii was a wealthy Roman trading town, famous for its fish sauce and grand villas. • There were many shops, places to buy food, and temples in the ancient city. • Wealthy people enriched their homes with elegant courtyard gardens and an abundance of modern conveniences.
