Objectives By the end of this lesson students
Objectives • By the end of this lesson students will be able to (1) define the term perimeter (2) calculate the perimeter of simple polygons
The word comes from the Greek word perimetros. In it, “peri” means 'around' and “metros” means 'measure'.
Perimeter means the “walk-around measure, ” or the distance you go if you walk all the way around the figure.
Example 1 Calculate the Perimeter P = 13 m + 15 m + 18 m + 5 m = 51 m
Example 2 Calculate the Perimeter P = 9 m + 5 m + 4 m + 6 m + 8 m = 32 m
Example 3 Calculate the Perimeter
Example 3 Calculate the Perimeter 12 m 7 m 7 m 12 m P = 7 m + 12 m + 7 m + 12 m = 38 m
Practice 1 Calculate the Perimeter 11 m 9 m
Practice 1 Calculate the Perimeter 11 m 9 m P = 11 m + 9 m = 31 m
What have you learnt? Draw your brain In your brain, write or draw everything you can remember about perimeter. It can be a skill or a reflection, or something else that might be prominent in your brain.
How well did you understand the lesson? Are you able to (1) define the term perimeter 2) calculate the perimeter of simple polygons . I don’t understand I nearly understand I fully understand
