Objectives At the conclusion of the PEPP CC Orientation, the participants will be able to: • Prepare and conduct a PEPP Course. • Select and recruit Faculty for a PEPP Course. • Submit a course roster through the PEPP website at www. PEPPsite. com.
PEPP CC Requirements Individuals who wish to become a PEPP CC must: • Be a physician (MD or DO), registered nurse, pediatric nurse practitioner, physician assistant, EMT, or paramedic. • Have EMS teaching experience or experience in coordinating another nationally recognized standardized course for teaching prehospital personnel. • Successfully complete a PEPP provider course at the level for which they wish to conduct a course.
PEPP CC Requirements Individuals who wish to become a PEPP CC must: • Submit an electronic application to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). • Complete the online orientation module provided by the AAP. • Be knowledgeable of the most current PEPP course material.

Responsibilities of a PEPP CC • Maintain integrity of the PEPP program • Select and communicate with a PEPP Medical Advisor • Select appropriate Faculty • Encourage students to complete the online participant evaluation
Responsibilities of a PEPP CC • • Maintain direct communication with the AAP Coordinate logistical issues Manage course budget Address educational principles within the structure of the course
Responsibilities of a PEPP CC • Be present for entire course, and supervise all aspects of the course • Register upcoming PEPP courses • Submit completed course rosters to the PEPP database • Ensure the safety of participants
PEPP Medical Advisor Requirements • Be a physician (MD or DO) • Have current responsibilities in the local or regional EMS system • Know local and/or regional EMS jurisdictional protocols • Agree to review how the PEPP course can be integrated into the local EMS community • Serve as a resource to the PEPP CC to answer questions regarding course content
Responsibilities of a PEPP Medical Advisor • Provide direction and advice for the CC • Review the course content and recommend potential Faculty if needed • Identify and clarify jurisdictional and protocol issues to be addressed in the course • Serve as a Faculty member if possible
PEPP Faculty Requirements • Be a health care professional • Be appropriately trained for the course and audience that they are teaching • Have successfully completed a PEPP course
Responsibilities of PEPP Faculty • • Facilitate learning process Be familiar with course structure and material Work with PEPP CC and other Faculty Read materials related to PEPP Faculty
Prior to the Course • Identify appropriate individuals to serve as Faculty and Medical Advisor. • Select course dates and register course on PEPP website. • Reserve location for course. • Develop course budget and set registration fee. • Develop a plan for promoting the course. • Order course supplies and equipment. • Reserve audiovisual (AV) equipment. • Order textbooks and other required materials.
PEPP Course Requirements • Ensure correct ratios for course size – 1: 6 Faculty-to-participant ratio for skills stations – 1: 10 Faculty-to-participant ratio for case-based scenarios • Enough equipment for Skill Stations • Room requirements – Large room for lectures – Four breakout areas
PEPP Course Requirements • Audiovisual equipment – LCD projector and screen – Computer with DVD-ROM drive – Monitor • Supplies • Required materials – 1 PEPP Instructor’s Toolkit per CC – 1 PEPP Textbook per student to be reviewed prior to course

Course Fees • PEPP CCs can establish their own fees for the PEPP course. • If course fees are charged, the fees should be based on local demand for the PEPP course. – When considering fee amounts, remember to make the course widely available and affordable.
Course Format Courses are structured to meet the needs of students with different learning styles and scheduling demands. The PEPP course is available in two formats: • Onsite course—for students who prefer to learn course content by attending a traditional instructor-led classroom course • Hybrid course—for students who prefer to learn some course content through self-directed online learning As an instructor, you have the flexibility to offer courses as onsite or hybrid.
Registering Your PEPP Course • Determine which course format will be offered: – Onsite – Hybrid • Go to www. PEPPsite. com and register your course through the online database.
Continuing Education Credit • The AAP is an accredited provider of the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS). • Participants who successfully complete the PEPP Course are eligible to receive continuing education units (CEUs) through CECBEMS. • Participants must select the option to receive CEUs during the access code redemption process.
Continuing Education Credit • CEU credits per course: – BLS hybrid course: 8. 5 CEUs – BLS onsite course: 8 CEUs – ALS hybrid course: 12. 5 CEUs – ALS onsite course: 14 CEUs • CECBEMS certificates will be delivered electronically to eligible participants.
PEPP Exam Administration • Online Pretest – ALS and BLS onsite students are required to complete this prior to attending an onsite course. • Written exam – Written exam is administered onsite for all ALS and BLS students and course formats. • A student should choose the appropriate course for their level of training (BLS or ALS).
PEPP Pretest Exam Administration ALS and BLS onsite students are required to complete a pretest examination prior to attending the traditional onsite course with their PEPP CC. • Students will locate the access code in the front of the PEPP Textbook. The card has instructions for redeeming the unique code. • Students login to www. PEPPsite. com. • Each student will select a course from the list and fill out the online registration form. Registration for a course requires an email address. • Each student will choose the appropriate course format: onsite or hybrid. – Onsite students: take the pretest – Hybrid students: work through the self-directed online modules • Course completion certificates are posted to the students’ My Account page on www. jblearning. com.
PEPP Written Exam Administration • Preparation – Photocopy test and answer sheet. – Make pencils available. • Implementation – Faculty may assist. – Score of 80% correct is required to pass. – Remediation may be necessary. – All tests must be returned to CC.
Exam Security • The PEPP CC is responsible for the security of the exams. • Participants in a PEPP course should not be permitted to leave the classroom with a copy of a PEPP exam or answer sheet.
Need for Remediation • Some participants will not pass the PEPP written exam on the first attempt. – In these cases, PEPP CCs should work with the student to develop a remediation plan. This may include the CC reviewing the missed test questions with the participant. – The participant may take the PEPP written exam a second time. It is advised that this be done on another day and with an alternative version. – If the participant does not pass on the second attempt, the participant must retake the course to potentially qualify for a PEPP Course Completion Certificate.
PEPP Successful Completion • Requirements: – Participate in the complete course – Complete the pretest (if applicable) and/or selfdirected online modules – Pass the written examination • Course Completion Certificate is valid for 2 years.
Course Evaluation • Online participant evaluation is found at www. PEPPsite. com. • Participants must complete the Course Evaluation in order to receive the PEPP Course Completion Certificate.
Course Roster • Complete online for no charge at www. PEPPsite. com. • Roster must be submitted within 30 days of the course. • After a roster is approved by the AAP, course completion certificates are posted to students’ My Account page on www. jblearning. com.
Course Coordinator Application • Individuals who meet the requirements to become a PEPP CC are encouraged to complete the CC application at www. PEPPsite. com. • Once your application is approved by the AAP, you will be asked to complete the online selfstudy orientation. • CC status is valid for 2 years.
