Objectives and Scope Authorization and Inspection of Radiation
Objectives and Scope
Authorization and Inspection of Radiation Sources in Nuclear Medicine Module 1. 1 Objective To assist IAEA Member States to establish or improve their national radiation safety infrastructure in order to implement the requirements of the Basic Safety Standards (GSR Part 3) and thereby to: • ensure the safety and security of radiation sources; • prevent accidents and incidents that could give rise to deterministic radiation injuries; • minimize occupational and public radiation exposure by ensuring that radiation doses do not exceed regulated levels. 2
Authorization and Inspection of Radiation Sources in Nuclear Medicine Module 1. 1 Scope This training programme deals with procedures for authorizing and inspecting nuclear medicine practices to ensure compliance with the Basic Safety Standards (GSR Part 3). 3
Authorization and Inspection of Radiation Sources in Nuclear Medicine Module 1. 1 The Basic Safety Standards (GSR Part 3): • establish basic requirements for protection against the risks associated with exposure to ionizing radiation and for the safety of radiation sources that may deliver such exposure. 4
