Obj 6 Pairs of Angles Objectives Identify linear
Obj. 6 Pairs of Angles Objectives: Identify • linear pairs • vertical angles • complementary angles • supplementary angles and set up and solve equations.
Tabbed Booklet • Align your sheets so that the edges are about 1" apart (in any order). • Fold the sheets so that the edge of the top sheet is about 1" from the bottom of the top sheet. • Staple twice about ¼" from the top of the fold. • On the top sheet write “Pairs of Angles” fold Pairs of Angles Adjacent Angles Linear Pair Vertical Angles Complementary Angles Supplementary Angles
adjacent angles Two angles in the same plane with a common vertex and a common side, but no common interior points. Example: 1 2 1 and 2 are adjacent angles. linear pair Two adjacent angles whose noncommon sides are opposite rays. (They form a line. ) Example:
vertical angles Two nonadjacent angles formed by two intersecting lines. They are always congruent. Example: 2 1 4 3 1 and 4 are vertical angles 2 and 3 are vertical angles
complementar Two angles whose measures have the y sum of 90º. angles Two angles whose measures have the supplementar sum of 180º. y 35º angles 55º A B 125º C A and B are complementary. (55+35) A and C are supplementary. (55+125)
Practice 1. What is m 1? 180 – 60 = 120˚ 1 60˚ 2. What is m 2? 90 – 51 = 39˚ 51˚ 2 3. What is m 3? 105˚ 3
Patty Paper Practice • Take your piece of patty paper and fold it any which way. • Open it back up. Fold it so that the line overlaps itself. This creates a right angle. • Open it back up and fold it again, being sure to cross one of the other folds. • Open it once again. Fold it so that the line goes through one of the right angles.
Patty Paper Practice • Identify and number the following angle pairs Angle Pair Angle Numbers Adjacent angles 1, 2 Linear pair 3, 4 Vertical angles 5, 6 Complementary angles 7, 8 Supplementary angles 9, 10 • Put your name on your paper and exchange papers with someone else. Check each other’s work (use your notes to settle any disagreements). • Turn in your papers.
