Oath of Allegiance for Naturalization “I hereby declare, on oath that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or a citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the armed forces of the United States when required by law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God. ”
Qualifications: • You must have been a continuous lawful permanent resident of the United States for 5 or more years or have been married to a permanent resident for more than three years and be currently married to that spouse. • You must also be 18 years of age or older, able to demonstrate a knowledge of and attachment to the United States government and its Constitution. • You must be able to read, write and speak English unless physically incapable of doing so or you are over 50 years of age and have been a lawful resident for over 20 years. • You must not be under deportation proceedings. • In addition, you must have some knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of history and government of the U. S. and be a person of good moral character.
Process: • If you meet all of these requirements you must submit a complete and accurate application form. • Then you take a multiple choice exam about U. S. history in the English language. • Finally you go through an interview with an immigration official. • Once you have completed all these steps you will be notified by the government if your application is approved. • Then you take an oath at a special ceremony.
