COMPREHENSIVE LOCAL NEEDS ASSESSMENT (CLNA) Provides a template for standardized, structured assessment of all NYSEDapproved programs offered by applicants. Ensures that applicants use program-level student performance data to examine where gaps may exist in access, equity, support, and outcomes. Ensures applicants examine their programs’ alignment with local, regional, and state workforce needs and identify where gaps may exist and improvements may be made. Focuses Perkins funding on areas in need of improvement 7

PHYSICAL EDUCATION STANDARDS REVIEW UPDATE • Engage New York State educators in a review of Physical Education Standards • Develop, adopt, and implement new K-12 New York State Physical Education Learning Standards • Present final standards document to the Board of Regents, proposed date of March/April 2020 Overall Goals • NYS Educator Panels reviewed and edited the national SHAPE Standards • Public input on the draft standards occurred (Fall 2019, September – November) • Currently analyzing public feedback (Late Fall / Winter 2019) Current Status • Include NY specific additions; create a NY introduction and glossary of terms (January March 2020) • Present final standards document to the Board of Regents (anticipated March/April 2020) • Develop a roadmap and implementation timeline Next Steps Draft NYS Physical Education Learning Standards available at: http: //www. nysed. gov/curriculum-instruction/physical-education-learning-standards-review

SCIENCE APPLICATION DEADLINES National Youth Science Camp Applications to attend the 2020 NYSCamp opened

SCIENCE APPLICATION DEADLINES National Youth Science Camp Applications to attend the 2020 NYSCamp opened on November 1, 2019. Deadline to submit applications is 6: 00 PM EST on February 28, 2020. To be selected from the United States, the student must be a graduating high school senior. The 2020 NYSCamp will be held from June 22 to July 15, 2020; students must be able to attend the entire program - no exceptions. For more information about the program, please visit the NYSCamp's website. Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) New York State can recognize up to three Mathematics finalists and three Science finalists. Up to two finalists in mathematics or science from each state will be recognized at the National level. The nomination period is open from November 1, 2019 - March 1 st, 2020 for a K- 6 educator. The deadline to submit an application is May 1 st, 2020. For more information pertaining to the PAEMST (2019 -2020) nomination and application process visit the PAEMST website.
