NYS COMMON CORE MATHEMATICS CURRICULUM A Story of Units Develop a short teaching sequence. • Develop a short teaching sequence that moves from simple to complex to guide a student to use one of your strategies. • Share the logic of your teaching sequence with your grade level triad. • What would you omit or what could you add to your sequence to either break it down or stretch it out? © 2012 Common Core, Inc. NYS COMMON CORE MATHEMATICS CURRICULUM A Story of Units What is the purpose of studying a textbook? • Read, “Intensive Textbook Study. ” • Use: “Save the last word for me” 1. Write a statement from the reading on a file card that stands out to you for whatever reason. 2. One member reads the statement on his/her card. 3. The members of the group (not the writer) comment “round robin. ” 4. The person who wrote the statement gets the last word. 5. Repeat the process. © 2012 Common Core, Inc.
