BBE @ NWO Partnership program with Paques Topic: A Novel Platform Technology for the Conversion of Waste Biomass to Renewable Bioproducts NWO divisions: STW, Chemical Sciences Budget: M€ 3 Collaboration: PPP (€: 50% government / 50% Paques) Focus Develop an in-depth understanding of the fermentation of organic material to VFA (volatile fatty acids) under non-sterile conditions Develop efficient methods to recover VFA from fermentation broths Develop novel processes for the efficient conversion of VFA to renewable biobased products Status 5 projects granted

BBE @ NWO Pipeline For 2012/2013 up till now NWO invested ~M€ 10 in BBE under the top sector policy. Investments in BBE will further increase, since: Numbers on curiosity driven research (talent schemes and response-mode research) will appear by the end of 2013. The Fund New Chemical Innovations is still open. Next ‘deadline’ for submitting projects: 24 September 2013
