What the Nutrition Info Tells us • The nutrients a food contains • Number of calories the food contains • Serving Size
Calorie Content • Calories come from protein, fat, and carbs. • Each gram of these contains a certain amount of calories • Protein = 4 calories per gram • Fat = 9 calories per gram • Carbohydrates = 4 calories per gram • Vitamins and Minerals contain ZERO calories!
Percentage of Daily Value • The FDA established a set amount of carbs, fiber, vitamin C, sodium, calcium, and other nutrients your body needs each day. • These “daily values” are expressed in percentages on food labels. • “_____% of your daily value”
