Newly Qualified Nurses • RGN Qualified in May will complete 9 credit hours for that year • RGN’s September – 6 credit hours for that year • PCN qualified in June will complete 6 credit hours for the part of the year. 13
Credit Hours Awarded • Receiving feedback from workshop • Receiving input from colleagues related to: article reviewed, research they have done, case presentation, peri-natal or maternal mortality meetings. ½ credit hour if presentation is less than 1 hour. The maximum 1 hour will be awarded if presentation was longer. 14
Credits Awarded • Presentation of an article reviewed • Presentation of case study • Presentation of Research findings • Presentation from a workshop attended • Presentation of an audit carried out All the above require to include discussion on the presentation. 1 credit hour for any of the above 15

Credits continued • Attending a workshop 1 credit hour will be granted for each day attended • If planning and implementing a workshop 4 credit hours are awarded for the workshop per day. 17

Verification of Credit Hours and Verification Process Initial signing : Immediate line manager • Immediate line manager who is present for: the presentation, report etc • shown evidence of; up-dated lectures, audit report, research, article submission 20

Whom They Verify • Matron’s of Hospitals (Grade 3 & above) • All nurses under them • Principal or Senior tutors • All tutors under them • All clinical instructors under the school • Students doing Post Basic courses, including PCN’s doing up-skilling in Obstetrics 23
Whom they Verify • District Nursing officers • Matrons in the District who are verifiers • All Nurses within hospital which do not have a Matron Grade 3 or above • All Nurses in Clinics – Private, Government, Local Council 24

Verified By Director of Nursing Services • All Provincial Nursing Officers • All Principal tutors • All Deputy Directors • All Nurses working within the DNS’s office 27
Process of Verification • Verifiers to keep a register of all qualified Nurses whom they are responsible for verifying • Supervisors to keep copies of information submitted to Nurses Council • Reports submitted direct to NCZ • Ensure that the NCZ booklets are signed, dated and stamped before returning to the individual 28
Information submitted to NCZ • Full name of Nurse as on Practicing Certificate • Registers which they appear on • Registration Number • Total credits achieved • Information on those who have not gained their credit Hours 29
Dates of submission • Registered General Nurses 31 th January each year • Primary Care Nurses – 30 th November each year • State Certified Traumatology Nurses – 30 th November each year 30
Late submission • Nurses will not be granted a new practicing certificate • Relevant fines will be imposed for late payment of subscriptions • Nurse presenting for registration 3 months after the due date will appear before the Disciplinary Board 31
Care of Booklets • The booklet is the responsibility of the individual nurse • The Nurse is responsible for keeping it safe • The booklet should remain in the possession of the nurse at all times • NCZ during inspections may request to see these for Audit purposes. 32
Nurses working outside the Country Purchase a booklet form NCZ Record continuing education Signed by Employer Relevant pages photocopied & certified Sent to NCZ with; letter, registration certificate in that Country, type of employment • Appropriate Registration fee • • • 33
Nurses not in Practice • Liaison with a Verifier • Obtain 12 credit points through continuing Education related to nursing • Entries signed by qualified persons • Verification done by; Matron- nearest hospital, DNO, PNO • The Verifier would submit their details, with details of any work experience 34
Nurses in Private Practice • Liaison with a Verifier - Matron- nearest hospital, DNO • Obtain 12 credit points through continuing Education related to nursing • Entries signed by qualified persons • Verification done by verifier on time • The Verifier to submit their details, with details of the qualifications with they are using. 35
Nurses who change employment status during the Year • Letter from first Verifier confirming credit hours • New verifier submits details to the NCZ at the appropriate time 36
Nurses on Post Basic Courses • Students obtain 1 credit hour for each day in class • Students will have their names submitted to NCZ by either the Principal or Senior Tutor 37
